Twitter officially launched its new feature that allows users to set NFTs as their profile picture. This feature helps users showcase their investment in digital art and collectibles. This move signifies the first social media platform to launch a feature in line with NFTs.
NFTs and Their Place in the Modern World
Twitter’s launch into NFTs marks the incredible popularity attained by these virtual assets. NFTs are one of the most popular ‘trends’ of 2021, generating more than $4 billion in sales in the last year alone. And its popularity only keeps growing. With major brands from Disney to Coca-Cola, everyone wants to be part of the NFT community.
NFTs in Twitter
NFTs or non-fungible tokens have taken up a lot of conversation on Twitter. From billionaire Elon Musk endorsing Dogecoin via Twitter to the popularity garnered by the infamous Bored Ape Yacht Club. Twitter has become home to NFT discussions. Thus, it comes as no surprise the tech platform decided to launch a feature that allows its users to display their part in the NFT community.
However, this feature is currently available only to users of Twitter Blue. Twitter Blue acts as Twitter’s first-ever subscription version providing users with several premium features unavailable on the free platform.
How It Works
The feature works by allowing users of Twitter Blue to connect their ‘crypto wallets’ to their Twitter account. The users may then access the NFTs stored on the wallet, selecting any one of their preferences to be displayed as their profile’s picture. Additionally, the Twitter Blue trait inserts an icon indicating that the NFT being used is authenticated. As well as the account’s user is the official owner of the digital asset.
While this characteristic may be available only to subscribers of Twitter Blue, the hexagonal profile picture and its authentication symbol will be visible to everyone on the platform.
This move marks the increasing popularity of NFT in the modern world. With more major brands and platforms beginning their journey into the world of cryptocurrency and NFTs, Twitter gives itself an advantage. It does this by allowing its users to showcase NFT purchases. Shortly, we may see more platforms following in the footsteps of Twitter.
